Metro rail in hyderabad

Wow, Indian government agreed to give 30%  as grant for metro rail project in hyderabad. Plan looks ambitious. Metro rail, will really solve lot of traffic issues, if properly executed. Even now MMTS is a big hit for people travelling to downtown (city) from uptown (suburbs) ;).

  1. There are so many issues wrt to implementation of this metro rail project. Moreover people have to think for 9646 crores and fo just 71 kms, is this project required ? the lines are going thro’ the places where there are some existing set up avl.

  2. I am sure there will be several implementation issues. Finally, once things settle down and if its planned out correctly, and after everyone takes their cut (some think that’s their birth right) from the project expenses it should be one project which might resolve some of the traffic issues. I would say just remove the existing flyovers and make room for the metro rail. Building fly overs to ease traffic congestion was a bad idea. Just like NYC,Once the metro rail is materialized we can put surcharge on four wheelers getting into city on weekdays which will put less cars on the streets. Because of our mega international airport, In next five years hyderabad will be directly connected (without any layovers) to all parts of the world.
